3 Card Monte: Installation in the Keys

Getting the piece done and down to the Keys on time took some doing. I haven't kept up with the photos, but we made it.

Digging in the Key West Sand, coral, dirt is not easy. It took most of a day to dig 5 holes.

By the end of the day I had the first section in place.

Day 2 started a little cloudy, cold, and windy.

Dug 2 more holes and set the second section.

Each section is set in concrete.

Day 3 dug the last hole and set the third section.

Ready to set number 4.

Done.

3 Card Monte: Sometimes this happens

The work goes on. This may look like an old picture, but it's not. One of the frames wasn't perfect. I kept thinking it was OK. Bottom line was I decided to remake it. Sometimes this happens.

The polished aluminum goes on the door slabs. They have all been test-fitted and are ready to be assembled as soon as the paint is done. That's what is happening today.

3 Card Monte: smoothing out the fiberglass

The fiberglass is done.  Now comes the fun part of smoothing it out for the polished aluminum.

It stopped snowing and raining, and got sunny and warm giving me the opportunity to smooth the fiberglass outside.

Grinding fiberglass besides being a boatload of fun makes lots of dust.  Being able to do it outside was really good.

It is done.  Tomorrow I pick up he Polished aluminum and drop it off at the sheet metal shop to be cut to size.

3 Card Monte: welds and snow

Sculpture Key West is coming up soon, and I have been working on "3 Card Monte."

Got the frames welded up.

My studio is small so I usually move out side to grind the welds smooth and any finish work.

We had a snow storm the other day — Good thing the frames were done before the snow. I'm not going to be working outside any time soon.

Time to fiber glass the doors, get them ready for the polished aluminum. I'm using flush door slabs to mount the polished aluminum.

This is the fiberglass cloth ready for the resin.

Glass half done.

Mile -1

This is the other model I submitted to Sculpture Key West 2010. I heard back from them and "3 Card Monte" is going to be included in the show. Stay tuned for a least a few construction pictures, a road trip, and installation in Key West.

Heather's Table

This is a stainless steel kitchen table I made. It would be a good guess that Heather and I were talking when I said, "You could use a new kitchen table." "You're the Artist, you design one," she replied. I designed it — She liked it. I built it. Here it is.
